Public Service Intranet (PSI)
(Decommissioned September 2025)
Background
The PSI.govt.nz was originally developed and owned the State Services Commission (now the Public Service Commission) in 2005 as a simple way of communicating news and information across all agencies in the New Zealand public sector. The intent of PSI is to be a “centralised, safeguarded environment for the public sector to share knowledge, broadcast information, and become informed.” Operational responsibility for the product was transferred to the Department of Internal Affairs in in 2006. In March 2015, an initiative was launched to create a proof-of-concept for a replacement built on the Common Web Platform (CWP). This was known as the BetaPSI initiative which moved into production 2016. The PSI was decommissioned on Monday 15 September 2025 as the platform was retired due to reaching its end-of-life status.
