New Zealand Public Sector Finance Graduate Programme - Your Finance Future

The world of finance is changing. Organisations need finance professionals who can truly partner with their business to make a difference.

The world of government is changing too, with agencies joining together behind the scenes to provide a range of online services that can be accessed wherever, whenever and however people need them.

The Public Sector Finance Graduate Programme is a three-year rotational development programme to build finance talent. You’ll spend the first two years in six-month rotations, with a one-year placement in the final year. This is an exciting way to expand your professional networks and sharpen your business acumen while you move between diverse participating agencies, meeting heaps of people and experiencing different organisations!

The diversity doesn’t stop with different workplaces. You’ll get a taste of the finance bigger picture across financial accounting, planning, procurement, management accounting and more, all while working toward qualifying as an accountant. You’ll also participate in a range of fascinating projects and even be given the chance to step up and manage smaller projects of your own!

You’ll get the chance to build on the skills you have learned over the last few years, working alongside passionate mentors who are leaders in public sector finance. Your work will support different agencies in their roles to develop policies and provide services to improve the lives of New Zealanders, so you’ll help to make a real difference for Aotearoa.

Your journey to becoming a fully qualified accountant

We will pay a highly competitive salary, professional membership fees, professional program fees and paid study time. We’ll support you through your studies by providing full tuition support in the form of learning sessions, revision workshops and/or online masterclasses so you’ll have the chance to learn in an interactive classroom environment instead of spending all your time outside of work hitting the books!

It’s all about you!

At the start of the Programme we’ll sit down with you to create a Personal Development Plan together and develop a rotation schedule that’s tailored for your development. You’ll have plenty of people to support you throughout the Programme including a Programme Manager, rotation managers, a mentor, your colleagues and graduates across the public sector.

You’ll be part of a workplace culture that’s supportive, collaborative and innovative. Coming to work will be about trying hard and having fun while knowing that what we do is for the good of New Zealand. If that sounds like you then we look forward to receiving your application!
