Scope of a National Policy Statement on Urban Design

Introduction

The future development of New Zealand’s urban areas is an important issue for us all. Our towns and cities face a number of economic, environmental, social and cultural challenges. These challenges mean that how we manage the development of our urban areas is central to achieving the nation’s broad sustainable development goals.

A discussion document exploring a possible approach to sustainable urban development was made available on 1 September 2008. This discussion document asked for feedback on a range of possible sustainable urban development ideas and options. Submissions closed on 28 November 2008.

The Sustainable Urban Development Unit would like to thank all submitters for contributing their ideas and time to this policy process.
