VIP Transport Services
VIP Transport Service (VIPT) provides safe, secure, 24/7 land transport services to the Prime Minister, Members of the Executive, senior judiciary, visiting dignitaries and other users as specified in the Members of Parliament (Remuneration and Services) Act 2013. The service is commonly known as the “Crown Fleet” and provides around 1000 chauffeur-driven jobs each month from depots in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch.
Modernising the Crown Fleet
Since 2019, the Department has been refreshing the vehicles in the Crown Fleet to ensure the service continues to meet the operational needs of its customers.
DIA has recently added 10 new Class 1 vehicles to the Crown Fleet as part of a long-term strategy to modernise and diversify the Crown Fleet and supporting infrastructure.
Class 1 - Crown plated vehicles
Class 1 vehicles are low emission premium standard vehicles that provide users with ‘mobile office’ capability.
Class 1 vehicles provide a high degree of safety, privacy, security, and comfort for passengers. The size allows passengers to continue working, conduct business, and prepare for engagements while travelling, and is suitable for passengers who travel frequently in a short period of time, or who are required to travel long distances.
Class 1 vehicles are suitable for significant official and ceremonial occasions, including the ability to meet international security standards required to participate in official motorcades, and enable New Zealand to reciprocate the standards of service provided to Official visitors from other countries.
