Applications open for funded international study through Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowships

8 August 2022

Applications for the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowships, which offer Kiwis the chance to make a difference in their communities by travelling overseas to learn new skills, are now open.

The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust provides New Zealanders with an opportunity to apply for funded international travel and study. Successful applicants can place themselves in situations that can not only enhance their personal learning and journey but, more importantly, will contribute to making a difference when they are applied back here in New Zealand.

In 2022, Winston Churchill Fellowships and the Winston Churchill McNeish Writer’s Fellowship will be offered.

Churchill Fellowships have given hundreds of Kiwis extraordinary opportunities in fields as diverse as the journey of the feijoa from South America to New Zealand, housing projects in Europe and Africa and even looking at baseball communications in the United States.

The McNeish Writer’s Fellowship is to encourage young and emerging writers and journalists to immerse themselves in another culture. It enables writers from New Zealand to travel so their horizons can shift and expand and so they can, on returning, look at their homeland with fresh eyes.

Board Chair Joy Tracey says “we welcome applications from people of all walks of life, coming from different professions, industries, regions, ethnicities, cultures, and background. When developing proposals and itineraries, applicants should consider the immense learning potential from cultures and experiences in the Pacific and Asia region as well as Europe, North America, and the United Kingdom”.

Applications for 2022’s Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowships opened on 6 July 2022 and close on 24 August 2022.
