Births Deaths and Marriages information has a new home

9/5/2016

Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) information has moved to a new online address and can now be found on Govt.nz.

Govt.nz brings together government information in one place, making it easy for New Zealanders to find and understand what they are looking for.

“The Department of Internal Affairs helps people during important times of their lives,” says Jeff Montgomery, General Manager Births, Deaths, Marriages, Citizenship, Authentications and Translations.

“Whether they’re getting married, recognising the birth of their child, or dealing with the death of family or friends, Births Deaths and Marriages has an important role to play in making it easier for New Zealanders to do what they need to do.”

“BDM information has been rewritten in plain English and presented in a way that makes sense to our customers – focussing on clustering services around life events. This includes making the information available to everyone, regardless of what device they are using – whether it’s a mobile phone, tablet or PC.”

Births, Deaths and Marriages are responsible for registering all births (including stillbirths), deaths, marriages, civil unions and name changes in New Zealand and issue over 350,000 certificates, print outs and marriage licences each year.
