Does your community or voluntary group need money, are you an individual with a disability, or are you engaged in health research?
The Lottery Grants Board may be able to help
The Lottery Grants Board was set up by Parliament to distribute the proceeds of state lotteries to New Zealand communities.
It does this through a system of distribution committees.
Lottery Community Committees
Make grants for projects that enable or encourage community self-reliance, capacity building and stability, opportunities for social, civil or cultural participation and reducing or removing barriers to such participation. Lottery Community consists of one National Committee and 11 Regional Committees. Lottery Community priorities include projects that have a community or social service focus, such as developmental or preventative projects, welfare and support services, and projects that help improve the well-being of people in the community
You can get more information and apply to these committees online at www.cdgo.govt.nz For details, you can download the Applying for Grants Online pamphlet in pdf format (212k). For online support or further information, ring 0800 824 824.
The Lottery National Community Committee has two subcommittees:
Individuals with Disabilities Subcommittee
Makes grants to people with mobility and communications related disabilities for the purchase and adaptation of vehicles, scooters and other mobility and communication equipment.
Pacific Provider Development Fund Subcommittee
Provides grants for the development and strengthening of Pacific Island community groups and social service providers to Pacific people in New Zealand.
You can download information and application forms for these committees from their own pages or call 0800 824 824
There are five other national committees that may support your project.
Lottery Environment and Heritage Committee
Provides grants for projects that promote, protect and conserve New Zealand’s natural, physical and cultural heritage
Lottery Marae Heritage and Facilities Committee
The committee funds capital works costs for the conservation, restoration and development of marae facilities, particularly wharenui, wharekai and wharepaku facilities.
Lottery Health Research Committee
Funds research that promotes the health of New Zealanders
Lottery Outdoor Safety Committee
Funds water safety and outdoor safety projects
If your application does not meet the criteria of a Lotteries Distribution Committee, you may be able to apply to the Minister’s Discretionary Fund. The Lottery Minister's Discretionary fund makes grants for individuals and groups for projects which fall outside the responsibility of other Lottery Committees, such as overseas travel that will benefit New Zealand, volunteer fire fighting services, and animal welfare.
You can download information and application forms for these committees from their own pages, ask for them by email, or call 0800 824 824
The Community Development Group of the Department of Internal Affairs administers the Lottery Grants Board. The Board also directly allocates funds to these statutory bodies:
The running of State lotteries and the distribution of prizes are the responsibility of the New Zealand Lotteries Commission.
