Return to AML/CFT News

17 August 2026

The Department of Internal Affairs has recently published a comprehensive suite of updated AML/CFT guidance to support reporting entities following the transition to a sole AML/CFT regulator.

To make it easier to understand what has changed, we've published a new Guidance Update Summary, which provides an overview of the key changes across each guidance document in one place.

Download the guidance update summary:

AML/CFT guidance package: Latest guidance updates (PDF, 465KB)

The summary should be read alongside the individual guidance documents and is intended as a quick reference to help you identify what has changed and where you may need to review your existing AML/CFT policies, procedures and controls.
Some of the key guidance documents you may wish to review include:

  • Risk Assessment Guidance
  • AML/CFT Programme Guidance
  • Enhanced Customer Due Diligence Guidance
  • A Guide to Complying with the AML/CFT Act
  • AML/CFT Reporting Entity Quick Start Guide
  • Customer Due Diligence Guidance
  • Practice Note for Non-Bank Financial Institutions: Updated Guidance on Wire Transfers and Prescribed Transaction Reporting

The summary also explains where new guidance has been introduced and highlights significant changes to existing guidance.
