Digital Child Exploitation Filtering System

A filtering system to block websites that host child sexual abuse images will be available voluntarily to New Zealand internet service providers (ISPs) within a couple of months.

The Digital Child Exploitation Filtering System, funded with $150,000 in this year’s Budget, will be operated by the Department in partnership with ISPs, and will focus solely on websites offering clearly objectionable images of child sexual abuse, which is a serious offence for anyone in New Zealand to access.

For more information about the filtering system, please read our media release (16.07.09).

Code of Practice

The Department is inviting public input on its draft code of practice for blocking objectionable websites that host child sexual abuse images. The code will be open to public comment until 28 September 2009. Comments on the code can be directed to: Lloyd.Bezett@dia.govt.nz

Note: the code is a living document and the Department welcomes comments at any stage.

For more information about the code, please read our media release (25.08.09).
