Peace and Disarmament Education Trust applications closing soon

    12 May 2011

The Peace and Disarmament Education Trust is now accepting applications for funding for not-for-profit projects promoting international peace, arms control and disarmament.

Organisations with a focus on peace and disarmament are encouraged to apply.

Applications must be submitted by 31 May 2011 to be eligible for this funding round.

The Trust was established in 1988 with funding received from the French Government in recognition of the events surrounding the destruction of the Rainbow Warrior vessel in 1985.

Each year, the Trust provides project grants and postgraduate scholarships to advance education and thereby promote international peace, arms control and disarmament.

Most project grants are for less than $5000.

Some recent grants made by the Trust:

$10,000 for the Aotearoa New Zealand Peace and Conflict Studies Centre Trust to run a workshop for peace education providers in New Zealand early-childhood centres and schools.

Aidan Burch was granted $4750 to undertake an internship at the New Zealand Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

$5000 to enable Lyndon Burford to undertake an internship at the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research.

The second funding round for project grants and post-graduate scholarships will open on
    1 August 2011.
