Background

This report provides an analysis of submissions received by 30 August 2001 regarding the Review of the Local Government Act. As part of the consultation process a number of hui and fono were conducted by officials from Department of Internal Affairs, and the record of those meetings has been included in this analysis. AC Nielsen, an independent market research agency, was commissioned to carry out the analysis for the Department of Internal Affairs.

The aim of this report is to summarise the information and ideas contained in the submissions in a clear and concise way. It does not provide an in-depth analysis of individual submissions. However, it does reflect the main themes and points of view expressed in the submissions. A list of all submissions is included in Appendix 1.
