Denial and Confirmation of New Zealand Citizenship

When applying for certain products or services (e.g. citizenship or a passport) some countries require proof of your status as, or not as, a New Zealand citizen. Please contact the appropriate authority of the country for the product or service you are applying for, for what documents are required. These documents may include:

Denial of New Zealand Citizenship

A 'Denial of New Zealand Citizenship' is an official document from the New Zealand Citizenship Office advising that the named person is not a New Zealand citizen.

To apply for a 'Denial of New Zealand Citizenship' the application form must be completed and sent to the Citizenship Office with the fee and a photocopy of the bio-data page of the passport (if available).

The processing time for a 'Denial of New Zealand Citizenship' is 20 working days from receipt of a correctly completed application.

Confirmation of New Zealand Citizenship by Grant

A 'Confirmation of New Zealand Citizenship by Grant' is an official document from the New Zealand Citizenship Office confirming the named person's status as a New Zealand citizen and how the criteria for citizenship was met.

To apply for a 'Confirmation of New Zealand Citizenship by Grant' the application form must be completed (including the Proof of Identity section) and sent to the Citizenship Office with the fee.

The processing time for a 'Confirmation of New Zealand Citizenship by Grant' is 20 working days from receipt of a correctly completed application.




Certified Copy of Descent Registration Certificate

A 'Certified Copy of Descent Registration Certificate' is an official copy of a Descent Registration Certificate certified by the New Zealand Citizenship Office. A 'Certified Copy of Descent Registration Certificate' can only be issued once New Zealand citizenship by descent has been registered.

To apply for a 'Certified Copy of Descent Registration Certificate' the application form must be completed (including the Proof of Identity section) and sent to the Citizenship Office with the fee.

The processing time for a 'Certified Copy of Descent Registration Certificate' is 20 working days from receipt of a correctly completed application.

Confirmation of Birth in New Zealand

A 'Confirmation of Birth in New Zealand' is an official document from the New Zealand Citizenship Office confirming the named person's birth in New Zealand.

To apply for a 'Confirmation of Birth in New Zealand' the application form must be completed (including the Proof of Identity section) and sent to the Citizenship Office with the fee.

The processing time for a 'Confirmation of Birth in New Zealand' is 20 working days from receipt of a correctly completed application.
