Fourth quarter pokie statistics

1 March 2019

The latest quarterly statistics on pokies in pubs and clubs released by the Department of Internal Affairs continue recent trends with increasing gaming machine profits but a decreasing number of gaming machines and venues.

The headline statistics for September to December 2018 show:

  • $236.7 million in gaming machine profits, $7.9 million or 3.5 per cent higher than the $228.7 million for the same period last year.
  • 1,117 venues, 39 or 3.4 per cent fewer than the 1,156 at the same period last year.
  • 15,257 gaming machines, 375 or 2.4 per cent fewer than the 15,632 at the same period last year.

This year, the Department of Internal Affairs has released a new visualisation tool to assist researchers, local government, charities and others with accessing and comparing Gaming Machine Proceeds data. The GMP Dashboard tool will be updated every quarter with the latest statistics, allowing viewers to see trends over time and delve into data by local authority.

Detailed quarterly statistics are available on the Department of Internal Affairs website.
