igovt protects your privacy by separating the logon process (what a person accesses online) from identity verification (who the person is) and what a person does with a government service provider.The igovt identity verification service will only verify your identity to a government service with your consent, using a minimal amount of identity information.
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner is consulted regularly on igovt and its design.
A number of independent Privacy Impact Assessments confirm high levels of privacy protection in the igovt design and operation.
Participating government service providers are not able to collect your personal information from the other government service providers using the igovt services and your use of different services cannot be tracked.
You can view your history of igovt transactions by using the Manage your igovt logon or Manage your igovt ID functions.
Security
Significant precautions have been taken to ensure the igovt services are safe and secure. The best security standards, practices and guidelines available have been used in the design and ongoing operation of the services.The igovt services have undergone comprehensive reviews of security and testing by independent specialists. Security reviews continue to be conducted regularly.
Some services available through the igovt logon service, including the igovt identity verification service, require an igovt code, to provide an extra level of security.
The igovt identity verification service is designed to limit the amount of information you need to provide to government to prove your identity. Instead of supplying many documents to prove your identity, you only supply four key pieces of information.
