Health Research

The Lottery Health Research committee funds research projects that will improve the health status of New Zealanders. It distributes grants to fund:

  • research into the cause, prevention and treatment of disorders affecting the health of New Zealanders
  • research that will lead to advances in health and bio-medical science for the ultimate benefit of all New Zealanders
  • the development, maintenance and retention of a highly skilled workforce of health and bio-medical researchers in New Zealand.
There are two applications you can make:
  • Research Projects and Shared Equipment
  • PhD Scholarships
The Lottery Health Research committee meets once a year in November. Application closing dates and distribution committee meeting dates for 2010 are listed here.

How to Apply
Download the relevant grant application and referee forms below:

PhD Scholarships Research Project and Shared Equipment Once the form is downloaded to your computer, fill it in electronically and save the edited version. Once completed, print it out and sign where indicated on the form. Please provide one copy only, printed single-sided and do not staple your documents. Return the completed forms and all required information to the address below (we do not accept faxed copies). The instructions on how to fill in your responses on the .doc template are:
  • To move from one field to the next use your Tab key, then type in your response
  • For the tick boxes where you are required to select one or more options, select by clicking with your mouse
  • To move back to a field type Shift + Tab.
*These documents are in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format. You need to have the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. You can download a free version from the Adobe website.
