Information and Communications Technologies

The Information and Communications Technologies Group provides information and communications technology (ICT) services to the Department, manages the Department's projects and programmes, and provides shared ICT services to all of government. It has three business units: the IT Group, the Programme Office and Government Technology Services.

The IT Group supports 2,500 desktops for the Department and for Ministers and their staff, and manages a wide range of ICT applications and systems to support passport application processing, gambling administration, local government administration and civil defence.

Government Technology Services

The Government Technology Services unit (or GTS) develops and promotes common ICT services for government agencies through the following workstreams:

Government Information Services supports public access to government information and services through websites. This includes the management of the .govt web domain and development and deployment of the government's web standards. It also provides web-based information and collaboration services to State sector employees.

Online Identity Infrastructure, in partnership with Identity Services, develops the igovt logon and the identify verification service. It also manages authentication standards and investigates future services that reduce the costs and improve integrity of online transactions.

Communication Network Services manages commercial arrangements with suppliers of network services to government, including the replacement of the Government Shared Network and syndicated agreements for mobile services. It also manages SEEMail, the secure email service for government agencies.

For further information on the common ICT services provided by GTS, please visit: www.gts.dia.govt.nz (Note: This is a government-facing website and not available to the public).
